Here's what I've learned from over 35 years of teaching:

You contain treasures.

Dreams that you have yet to express. Memories that are precious and might be lost. Meaningful insights that swim inside your noggin' but that you haven't yet immortalized into words.

I developed the ongoing Write Through the Torah Workshops as an oasis, a sacred space, a creative playground, a place to quiet the world and - for a blissful pause - to listen to your inner voices, experience the world and your inner life afresh.

Originally, I created this practice for myself and a group at the University of Judaism in Los Angeles - to "renew my soul" amidst Hollywood projects that began to feel soulless.

And it worked! Drawing from the original text, from midrash and commentaries - my students and I began to discover - and polish - those inner treasures.
